Nequi and DaviPlata in 2026: limits, the 4x1000 tax, and how to get paid
Published on
In 2026 a low-amount Nequi or DaviPlata account allows up to 210.5 UVT per month — about 11,024,727 pesos — adding up deposits, withdrawals and payments. The 4x1000 tax starts being charged once the month's movements go over 65 UVT, about 3,404,310 pesos. To charge customers you don't need anything beyond your phone number.
In Colombia almost nobody pays a small business online with a card: they pay with Nequi or with DaviPlata, and they do it in seconds from their phone. That makes the two wallets the default payment method for thousands of stores selling on WhatsApp and Instagram.
The problem shows up once the business starts moving. There are caps, and they aren't obvious until you hit them head-on halfway through the month.
The 2026 limits, in plain terms
The caps are calculated in UVT, the unit Colombia updates every year. For 2026 one UVT is worth 52,374 pesos, so every limit rises compared to 2025 even though the number of UVT stays the same.
| Item | In UVT | In pesos (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly cap of the low-amount account | 210.5 UVT | 11,024,727 |
| Threshold where the 4x1000 tax kicks in | 65 UVT | 3,404,310 |
| 4x1000 threshold with the account marked as exempt | — | 18,330,900 |
| Value of one UVT | 1 UVT | 52,374 |
The cap adds up everything, it isn't per transaction
This is the most common mistake. The 11,024,727 pesos aren't the maximum for one transfer: they're the total of everything that goes in and out of the account during the month. If 5 million comes in and you take out 5 million, you've already used ten of the eleven available even though your balance sits at zero.
Once you hit the cap, the platform blocks new movements until the next cycle. For a business that means being unable to get paid in the middle of a busy week, exactly when it hurts most.
The 4x1000 tax and the exempt account
The financial-transactions tax is charged on whatever goes over 65 UVT per month. You can mark one account as exempt and push that threshold up to about 18.3 million — but only one, and it counts across the whole Colombian financial system, not just Nequi. If you already have the exemption set on your bank account, you can't also set it here.
How to actually get paid with them
Getting paid is the easy part: you show your number, the customer sends the money and you get the notification. What gets complicated as you grow is knowing which payment matches which order, because the notification only carries a name and an amount.
Three things that save trouble from the start:
- Always ask for the receipt, not just the "I already sent it" message. The screenshot carries a transaction reference and a time, and it's the only thing that lets you reconcile it later.
- Check your own app before shipping. Screenshots get faked surprisingly easily; the notification that reaches you is the only reliable source.
- Keep the business account separate from your personal one. It's not just about staying organized: since the monthly caps add up incoming and outgoing money, mixing in personal expenses eats into the room you need to sell.
When it's time to move to a savings account
If the business regularly gets close to eleven million a month, the low-amount account starts falling short. Both Nequi and DaviPlata let you switch to a savings account, which removes those caps in exchange for more identification requirements. It isn't a big process, and it avoids getting blocked mid-month.
Show your payment details at checkout
MyShopLink lets you set up Nequi, DaviPlata or whatever methods you use, and shows them to the buyer when the order is placed, together with the exact amount. The order arrives with what was ordered, where it's going and which method was chosen, so all you have to do is check the payment and ship.
