Which countries let you tag products on Instagram
Published on
Instagram Shopping — tagging products in posts and having a shop on your profile — isn't available in every country. In Latin America it only works in Mexico and Brazil. In Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile and much of the region it can't be turned on, and there's no setting that unlocks it.
It's one of the questions that comes up most among sellers who've spent months trying to enable the feature and think they're doing something wrong. Almost always it isn't a mistake on their part: their country simply isn't on the list.
Where it's available and where it isn't
| Region | With Instagram Shopping | Without Instagram Shopping |
|---|---|---|
| Americas | Brazil, Canada, Mexico, United States | Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Central America and the Caribbean |
| Europe | Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Ukraine | Much of Eastern Europe |
| Asia-Pacific | Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand | Rest of the region |
Meta changes this list without notice and without any announcement. Before writing the feature off, check in your app whether Settings → Business → Shopping shows up: if it doesn't, your account doesn't have it enabled today.
Why the option to tag isn't showing up for you
There are three possible causes, and only two have a fix: your country isn't available (no fix), your account isn't professional (changed in settings), or your catalog isn't approved by Meta (checked in Commerce Manager).
- Your country isn't on the list. There's no setting, no trick, and no account from another country that fixes it in a stable way.
- Your account isn't professional. Personal accounts can't tag products. It's changed in the account settings.
- Your catalog isn't approved. Meta reviews products and rejects entire categories. It's checked in Commerce Manager.
In-app payment on Instagram doesn't work like it used to
Even if you manage to tag products, it's worth knowing what people actually buy. Meta removed native checkout from Shops, so the purchase now ends up on the seller's own website. The tag is there to help people discover the product and send the customer elsewhere, not to charge them inside the app.
What's left if your country isn't on the list
The real alternative is your own catalog with a link in your bio. The customer sees the products with price and photo, builds their order and sends it on WhatsApp. It doesn't depend on Meta enabling anything in your country and it works the same everywhere.
It's what most businesses in the region actually do, and it has three advantages over waiting for Instagram Shopping to arrive:
- The order lands on a channel you already use. WhatsApp is already installed on your customer's phone and they don't need to register anywhere.
- You get paid with your country's methods. Yape, Pago Móvil, Nequi or a bank transfer, without depending on an international gateway operating where you live. We cover it in detail in how to get paid without a payment gateway.
- The link is yours. If a social network changes its rules tomorrow, your catalog stays standing.
And if your country does have it
In Spain, Mexico or Brazil it's worth turning it on: tagging products in posts helps people see the price without having to ask by DM. Even so, you still need somewhere to send the buyer, because the purchase doesn't get closed inside Instagram. Your own catalog and Instagram tags don't compete: they complement each other.
A catalog that works in any country
MyShopLink builds your catalog with its own link for your Instagram bio. Orders arrive on WhatsApp and you get paid with your country's methods.
